Hey Nerds,

Welcome to our second Weekly Beer Roundup!

As I promised, this week’s roundup is much shorter as we take a look at what beers we enjoyed over the past week. I want to acknowledge that my NP4L and I share beers (pouring halfsies for each of us) so we can try and enjoy multiple unique beers in one sitting. Consequently, we can remain responsible in our alcohol consumption. It goes without saying that all of these beers are consumed in our home with no need for a designated driver.

Bars in Texas are beginning to reopen. If you are venturing out remember to wear your mask when not drinking and always have a designated driver. Arrive alive, my nerds.

September 6 – September 12

Huckleberry Haze – Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar
IPA – American
6.7% ABV – 33 IBU
Rated: 4.8 out of 5 bottle caps

Lazy Dog is a national chain of upscale-casual restaurants. They have have 36 locations throughout California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, and Texas. We’re big fans of their food, but they also brew their own beer! Grabbed a 4-pack of Huckleberry Haze when we tried their to-go TV dinners. It’s a refreshing, slightly fruity IPA that I even turned my mom onto. She’s not the biggest beer drinker, so just sayin’! (Plus, they have a Beer Club, y’all!)

Kookie Monster – Martin House Brewing Company
Stout – Imperial/Double
12% ABV – 46 IBU
Rated: 4.6 out of 5 bottle caps

We drank this on a stay-in date night. Spoiler alert: it pairs PERFECTLY with a home made lava cake.

Black is Beautiful – Intrinsic Brewing
Stout – Imperial/Double
10% ABV – N/A IBU
Rated: 4.3 out of 5 bottle caps

Nerd Alert Turning Point Beer
IPA – Triple New England
10.5% ABV – N/A IBU
Rated: 4.3 out of 5 bottle caps

Peach Ale – Peticolas Brewing Company
Fruit Beer
12% ABV – N/A IBU
Rated: 3.9 out of 5 bottle caps

According to Untappd, this beer is out of production. I assure you, at least for the time being, you can get crowlers and growlers of this refreshing peach ale from the brewery as beer-to-go.

Laser Cannon Deth Sentence (2020) – Turning Point Beer
Stout – Imperial/Double
15.3% ABV – N/A IBU
Rated: 4.9 out of 5 bottle caps

Holy damn. This is blended stout is phenomenal. Aged in bourbon barrels for 10-13 months, it’s conditioned with cacao nibs, shave coconut, and Madagascar vanilla beans for an easy drinking, boozy sipper.

Brain Scramblies – Turning Point Beer
IPA – Quadruple
12.4% ABV – N/A IBU
Rated: 4.4 out of 5 bottle caps

If you like hops, this beer is for you. Made with Vic Secret, Sabro, Hallertau Blanc hops, this beer delights nose and is juicy to boot.

Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin – New Belgium Brewing Company
Pumpkin/Yam Beer
6.4% ABV – 10 IBU
Rated: 4.3 out of 5 bottle caps

We drank this one last week too and I’ll let you in on a little secret, this is one of my favorite pumpkin beers. The little bit of a spicy kick from the Saigon Cinnamon and Habanero and De Arbol peppers puts this over the edge. It’s not just a pumpkin beer; it’s more complex and slightly addictive.

The DUKE – Peticolas Brewing Company
Barleywine – English
12% ABV – 35 IBU
Rated: 4.4 out of 5 bottle caps

Kush Hazy Double IPA – Community Beer Company
IPA – Imperial/Double New England
8% ABV – N/A IBU
Rated: 4.1 out of 5 bottle caps

Nachos, Lemonheads, My Dad’s Boat – Martin House Brewing Company
IPA – Imperial/Double
11% ABV – 86 IBU
Rated: 4.2 out of 5 bottle caps

Buy the drink for the name. Drink it because it’s a solid brew from one of my favorite local breweries. Plus the can has Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly on a boat!

Rumpy – Rahr & Sons Brewing Company
Pumpkin/Yam Beer
9% ABV – N/A IBU
Rated: 4.6 out of 5 bottle caps

Shockingly, we stuck to what we love and drank mostly IPAs, stouts, and fall beers. I’m on the lookout for more fall beers…and cannot wait until WINTER beers hit the shelves. You’ll find me on the beer aisle then.

Cheers,
Head Nerd
