Hey Nerds,

I wanted to give you all a quick update. I got a job!!!!

How could I not feel blessed?

Let’s look at my timeline:

June 19: my last day working for my former employer
June 21: applied for the position
June 24: call from HR representative for initial screening
July 1: scheduled interviews with hiring manager and teammate
July 6: interviews and was informed immediately I’d move on to next round at end of interview with hiring manager (teammate interview: 45 minutes, hiring manager interview: 1 hour and 15 minutes)
July 9: scheduled interview with senior director
July 11: interview with senior director (interview: 30 minutes)
July 14: received offer and accepted
July 20: first day!

Your eyes do not deceive you, that’s a month. One month between my last day worked and starting at my new employer!

This entire job search I was keeping it in the back of my head that the one thing I can control is my hustle. I knew that I my experience spoke for itself and that I could readily promote my work ethic and awesomeness. This feeling? It’s validation.

Fun Fact: OK, I don’t really have a fun fact. The closest I have is that I’ve been unemployed twice in my professional career. Back in 2013 I was unemployed for 6 weeks. At that point in time, I was ashamed that my position was eliminated. That my employer felt MY position was expendable. I didn’t go out. I focused 100% of my time on finding a new job. We only dined out once: Jimmy John’s where we got two slim 4’s (turkey) and that’s it. No drinks. No sides. Just turkey on bread.

This go around we cooked at home and our splurge was Sonic (thanks to the Sonic app and their summer specials), and a single beer run to by Black is Beautiful from Funky Picnic. But I will tell you that this go around I was FAR more confident in myself and my worth. Don’t let something that was outside of your control make you feel like you aren’t a GD rockstar.

So to those of you who are currently searching for a new job, there is hope. Maybe you won’t find a job in a month. But you WILL find a job and it’ll be the job that’s right for you. I believe in you and your abilities. If you need a hype-woman, I’m it. I will hype the ever living ship out of you.

Just let me know if you need my hype services. Seriously.

Cheers,
Head Nerd
